Professional Licensure

Background

UNC Greensboro’s Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies program offers a Birth to Kindergarten program that leads to professional licensure within the State of North Carolina.

Authorization for Distance Learning

UNC Greensboro is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA) which allows us to provide distance learning programs (both online and in the form of supervised field experiences) and coursework to residents of states other than North Carolina.

Professional Licensure

NC-SARA membership, however, does not grant reciprocity or exempt us from state professional licensing requirements. As a result, licensing requirements in North Carolina may not be recognized as sufficient to obtain a license in any other state. UNC Greensboro cannot determine the applicability of program coursework to satisfy licensing requirements outside of North Carolina. Our programs and coursework are designed to meet the licensure requirements of licensing entities within North Carolina.

Recommended Approach to Licensing Requirements Verification

We highly recommend that students enrolled in licensure programs contact officials with the specific academic program for assistance with professional licensure questions and enrollment options prior to beginning an academic program. Additional help can also be obtained by contacting UNC Greensboro’s State Authorization Compliance Office.

Disclosure

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) does not guarantee that programs which fulfill North Carolina licensure requirements will satisfy the criteria of professional licensure boards in other states or territories.

Important Note for Prospective Students

If you are considering an academic program that leads you to obtaining professional licensure in your state, it is highly recommended that you contact the appropriate licensing agency in your state to seek information and additional guidance before beginning a program outside of your state.
